'Forbidden Pilgrimage' is a research in the mind of a woman who made history by becoming the first woman to reach the Himalayan top. Her life was torn between a life of passion and tradition. The director embarks on a journey to confront herself with the consequences and inner struggle of this woman. 'Forbidden Pilgrimage' is a co-production between Inti Films (BE) and of Volya Films (NL) and has been supported by The Flanders Audiovisual Fund (VAF), the Dutch Film Fund (NFF) and CCAF. We are happy to announce that our Duch co-producer Denis Vaslin and Fleur Knopperts from VOLYA FILMS received co-production support from the Dutch Film Fund for 'Forbidden Pilgrimage' by Ellen Vermeulen.
The film tells the story of a woman Marie-Louise Chapelle, who ahead of her time in 1952 makes history by becoming the first woman reaching the top in the Himalaya Mountains. The filmmaker embarks on a journey through the feelings of Marie-Louise to understand the woman she was and to explore what is at stake for herself as a woman in todays society. The feature documentary 'Sakawa' by Belgian-Ghanaian director Ben Asamoah has been selected for the 24th edition of the IDFA Forum 2016. The project will be presented in the Round Table Pitch on the 22th of November. The film recounts the story of two Ghanaian boys and one girl who are involved in Internet fraud and invoke the help of black magic. The film intends to show the human story that lies behind the widespread phenomenon of 'Internet fraud'.The film is produced by Inti Films and co-produced by Pieter van Huystee Film, with the support of The Flanders Audiovisual FilmFund, the Dutch Film Fund, VRT and the Taxshelter of the Belgian government. We are very pleased that 'Bodkin Ras', the debut by Dutch director Kaweh Modiri has been selected for ‘Bright Future’ at the International Film Festival Rotterdam. In Bright Future, IFFR presents adventurous new work by novice makers.Bodkin Ras tells the story of a young Arab man who arrives in the quiet Scottish town of Forres.
He fled to this remote corner of Europe to keep a low profile after a fatal accident. This appears to be impossible in the city where rumors spread faster than the plague.
We are happy to announce that our Duch co-producer Pieter van Huystee Film received co-production support from the Dutch Film Fund for 'Sakawa' by Ben Asamaoah. Earlier Inti Films has also received production support from the Flemish Film Fund (VAF) and Canvas. 'Sakawa' follows three Ghanaian boys who, because of financial problems, get involved in internet fraud and invoke the help of black magic. 'Sakawa' show how a new African generation deals with the digital world and how this is connected to African spirituality. At the Film Festival of Oostende, our film 'N- The Madness of Reason' took home the award for 'Best Flemish Film of 2015'. The film also received the Ensor for Best Music (Walter Hus) and Best Editing (Nico Leunen).Chairman of the festival, Jan Leyers, spoke about the jury's choice saying that the decision for 'N- The Madness of Reason' to win Best Film was quickly and unaminously made: 'I think I speak on behalf of the entire jury when I say that there is one film which has swept us all into a world of mystery.
A masterpiece, a poetic masterpiece, full of magic. A film set in West Africa, but actually centers our European obsession with thinking, counting, and measuring, and how often that path is ill-fated.' We would like once again to thank the Film Festival of Oostende and everyone involved in this whirlwind of a journey! The Flanders Audiovisual Fund has awarded production support to the feature documentary 'Cargo Vie', written and directed by Peter van Goethem.' Cargo Vie' retraces the life of Belgian novelist and philosopher Pascal de Duve who died of AIDS in 1993. Inspired by the diary de Duve kept while crossing the Atlantic, the film visualises de Duves gifted personality through personal documents, recorded appearances, public performances and interviews with family and friends. The narrator wanders again through long-ago-visited places and spaces.
Cargo Vie is not only a portrait of Pascal de Duve but also an evocative contemplative journey on the nature of spirituality, existence and memory. The film documents Renzo Martens efforts to launch a process in Congo, whereby the production of art will lead to gentrification. Plantationworkers-turned-artists will be guided producing critical art. Don’t look now, but Wisconsin is staking its own claim on the Latin music scene as returns to the Wisconsin Dells for another two-day power play in support of the claim that it’s one of the best Latin music festivals in the nation. Though it may not have the same profile as Coachella, it does boast a very expansive and diverse lineup of Latin music in its many forms.

For lovers of global sounds and Latin music, the long Labor Day weekend is a perfect time to make a late summer getaway to Wisconsin’s lake country. The week that was featured a bevy of new releases from global artists all over the world. Starting with some classic reggae, we explored new releases from Khruangbin and Claude Fontaine.
A badass tune from iLe (Residente of Calle 13’s little sister), plus other indie Latino gems from Mateo Kingman and Chancha Via Circuito. Cool South African neo-soul from Seba Kaapstad and more typical house vibes from DJ Maphorisaand Kabza de Small. Merengue gets a crucial reboot from Vicente Garcia and brand new stuff from afro-beats star Burna Boy.Check it out below.
Tatsuro Yamashita on the album art for his album, “Best Pack”Tatsuro Yamashita and Haruomi Hosono are like the godfathers of City Pop and they both get spins here. Others, like singers Ruhriko Ogami and Miharu Koshi, fit well in the mix with their sun-drenched disco soul. Los JaivasBeginning in the 60’s, Chile has been a fertile ground for all kinds of takes on psych rock.
Bands like Los Jaivas were incredibly influential for later bands, some big, some small. Bands like The Psychedelic Schafferson, Orbes and Holydrug Couple were examples I used in the hour to share this psychedelic South American tangent. With the desert rock of the Sahara in mind, I had to showcase one of my favorite global music artists and sublime guitar work of Mdou Moctar. I’ve been on his train since I heard his cassette-to-digital introduction on “Sahel Sounds” and in 2019, he looks ready to make some kind of leap.
I shared a pair of songs from recent recordings as his latest album “Ilana” looks set for release this spring. Moctar shreds, and call and response vocals make his sound mesmerize. Plus he’ll be in Milwaukee on April 5 atThe rest of the set is a smattering of other new offering from cats like the enigmatic Goatman (from the Swedish collective Goat), a neo-mambo from screamer Mendoza Orkesta out of Tuscon, AZ as well as Leyla McCalla and Patt Kalla & Le Super Mojo. GepeIn the process of digging for songs and trying to sort out what I needed to play, I learned a lot about folk sounds from all the countries that the Andes inhabits. From Chile’s to early to pan flute sounds from Bolivia and Ecuador, there is truly too much to share in an hour long program.
Especially given that the last part of the hour features newer artists who you can tell were influenced by these roots—from Argentina’s Chancha Via Circuito, to Bolivia’s Luzmila Carpio, and Ecuadorians Nicola Cruz, Matanza and of course, Gepe.
